Behind the Scenes - Fall Launch

With the crispness in the air you can tell that fall is not far away.  With fall comes the beginning of a new sewing season at Fits Sew Well.  In person workshops kickoff, online seminars begin, and best of all, new fabric arrives in the studio.  I thought it might be fun for you to see what happens behind the scenes as we are gearing up for our fall launch.  Our launch usually occurs at our local sewing show, however, for the 2nd year it has been cancelled due to Covid.  So, this year the party is going online.   Anyhow back to the preparations….

The journey began in Vancouver BC with visits to 3 Canadian fabric distributor showrooms: Gordon Fabrics, KenDor Textiles, and Telio.   For 2 days I poured over hundreds of fabric samples seeing what was new and interesting.  Wow that was sew exciting!  Like a kid in a candy store, I relished every moment to touch and feel the fabric samples.

Back home I spent days trying to narrow it down.  I found some whimsical Bamboo/Viscose jersey prints, vibrant Rayon/Cotton and cozy Tencel sweater knits, fabulous ribbed Tencel jersey, wonderfully soft Bamboo French Terry with matching ribbing to name a few.  All fabric is on order, and some arrived the other day!  It was a wonderful surprise to open the door and find this waiting for me.  This is better than anything that Amazon can deliver!

Now I am in the unpacking and photographing phase.  I like to photograph multiple pictures of each fabric so you can appreciate the colour, pattern, scale and drape.  Spoiler alert; this is one of the new fabrics being photographed.  More fabric is expected to arrive next week.

Shooting Fabric Pictures

The online launch is set for the last week of September and the first week of October.  It will be great fun as I will be hosting a fashion update – what colours and styles are more prevalent this fall and then unveiling the new fabrics.  You don’t want to miss out on the fun!

Join us for the Fall Launch and Fashion Update.

It will be a great party!

Can’t wait to see the new fabrics you have for sale Janice! Your fabrics are always top notch quality and I will take your courses on zoom and some in person courses as well. Fit is one of the most important aspects of clothing construction. I wish I had found you sooner! I have been sewing since I was 3 years old but I have never had a mentor guide me to make my sewing better. But that didn’t stop me from making mistakes and trying to figure it out myself! Why waste fabric though because something doesn’t fit right as a result of the pattern? It’s so true that the patterns don’t fit us as well when we get older and our bodies change so it’s important to get that fit right. This is where I need help. It’s always easier to have a mentor. Looking forward to taking your courses at Fits Sew Well. Grace

Many think that all you need to do to fit a knit is get it over your body. Well, depending upon your comfort level, that may not cut it.  I find it is more of an art when fitting a knit as opposed to following a set of strict rules.   It depends on many factors
